Oral Pathology and Oral Microbiology

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology is dedicated to train both theoretically and practically, the dental students and interns about Dental Anatomy, Dental Histology, various oral and Maxillofacial Pathologies, Forensic Dentistry and related fields. The Department of Oral Pathology provide best quality diagnosis and is equipped withall the armamentarium required for basic hematoxylin and eosin staining, including anautomatic tissue processor and state of the art research microscope along with Wi-Fi enabled smart slide projecting system in the form of Retina screen, which can be rotated at 360⁰ and can be used for case discussions and tele-pathology. Live slide pictures can be clicked and saved in it. The Retina screen has inbuilt software for marking and calibration of areas of interest, and other photo-editing required for research purposes. Wereceive yearly average 100 pathology specimens for diagnosis and arealso affiliated with LG hospital, general pathology department for advanced diagnostic procedures.The department also receives slides for second opinion.

Department library has latest editions of many reference books, atlases, CDs and flashcards; and many specimen and models of oral lesions along with general anatomy hard tissue specimen are displayed in the departmental museum.

Portable projecting system in the department is used for student presentations to improve their elocution skills.

Oral Pathologist Day celebration is organized every year by the department, on 25th February by conducting various events like quiz, carving, drawing and model making competitions.

We encourage undergraduate students; interested in basic research, to opt post graduation courses in Oral Biology and Oral Pathology programs in India as well as abroad.
